Sella & Mosca, Marchese di Villamarina, Alghero 2004
Grape variety: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Only Cabernet Sauvignon grapes harvested from vines planted on iron-rich clay and sandy soils in the Alghero region are used to make this impressively rich, yet mellow red. Maturity is engrained into the wine from 18 months ageing in small French oak barrels, followed by another year spent in the traditional large casks plus 18 months in the bottle. The 2004 vintage has a dense but brilliant ruby red colour with a nose of surprising floral notes mainly withered roses and wisteria. In the mouth, there’s a dominance of cherry and black cherry jam with elegance, freshness and character. An extremely drinkable vintage that shouldn’t be missed.
